It is humbling to launch EloRu Tea during Black Maternal Health Week 2020. As those of us who are fortunate enough to be sheltered in place during this traumatic pandemic, I have had time to continue crafting my teas, but also time to reflect on why I decided to launch this.
I hated tea. have always been team coffee. I drank tea when I had a cold or flu. But after physical trauma for the birth of my first daughter in 2008, an additional surgery to correct the mess of my c-section, and a painful second pregnancy and birth of my youngest daughter, I learned two things: My treatment and voice was not heard as a Black woman, and I needed to take control of my health and healing.
I called on my ancestors.
The only way to heal would be through the blood memory of natural herbal healing to correct the scars in my womb, ease my daily pain, and repair my feminine energy. Three years, test, trials, prayers and conversation with spirit, I concocted the herbs that would bring my wound and my spirit back to life. Now I drink tea daily, with excitement.
For Black Maternal Health Week 2020, I bring you EloRu Tea, named after my grandmothers Eloise and Ruth. I launch with the tea that saved me, The Womb. The combination of herbs helps to repair uterine scar tissue damaged from c-section and ease chronic pain. I also bring you Mama’s Milk Magic to support milk production of lactating mothers.
I send healing to all mothers, but especially the Black women who are most likely to experience trauma in the maternal health exchanges. I send healing to all of the unheard mothers whose pain has been dismissed. May EloRu Tea support you along a new journey.
